What is the Root of Bitterness? (aka: the opposite of love)

Cause & Effect.
Choices & Consequences.

Do we teach our children these simple cosmic rules, then fail to model them ourselves?

I had a revelation years ago, while breaking crackers from a church stage (ie., presenting Jesus in the Passover), where God showed me that Matthew 6:15 (Cause) and 1 Corinthians 11:30 (Effect) are intimately tied together.

It was fitting that the moment God showed me the connection was when I was holding up the Horseradish Root, aka: The Root of Bitterness.

He then showed me Psalm 133 as a model of the Body of Messiah without Bitterness, Resentment, Retaliation, Unforgiveness, and Murder with the Tongue (Gossip). He pointed out how Verse 1 and the last half of Verse 3 are also intimately connected:

"Behold, how good and pleasant it is
when brothers dwell in unity....For there the Lord has commanded...
life forevermore."

Good and Pleasant Unity (Cause) are connected to Eternal Life (Effect).

Jesus said it this way:
"A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another." John 13:34

If you are stumbling over the Root of Bitterness and have fallen into what Hebrews 12:15 warns against, there is still hope!

God is still available with his forgiveness and blessings! All you have to do is forgive those who have sinned against you.

Maybe we should pray more for people in this area, than concerning ourselves over politics and "me-focused" worship songs in church?

"See to it that no one falls short of the grace of God and that no bitter root grows up to cause trouble and defile many." Hebrews 12:15
